2012, Yeoldstinkeye's Best of the Best...

Well. This year has been a whirlwind of great music. So many new and upcoming Bands that gave us a taste of what's to come, and then there's the veteran's that just release unbelievable Album's every time. This year was a bit hard for me to list everything I really liked. Most of the releases were from smaller Bands that put out a killer Demo or an EP and so I kept most of those to myself, as there were way too many and that would have kept everyone busy hunting for the next year. This list is in no particular order and has some highlights from 2012. It's a very large list. Hopefully some of these Bands found their way into your collection or maybe you've supported them along their travels at a local venue. So as we put 2012 into the books, let's take a look back and make sure we got all the goods. I hope 2013 can compare. Long Live The Riff!!!

If you can't beat em', Join em'...

"A Roaring 2 piece Sydney Stoner Punk band with many influences who love rockin' ultra loud, driving, fuzzzy stoner punk tunes. Having just released their Big Wheel Demos mid 2012, Witch Fight are gearing up to record their upcoming album due out in 2013. If you can't find em exploding ear drums while destroying a stage, they'll most likely be attacking many of the pinball machines across Sydney!"

For a guy that has given his all for the music.

"I would like to consider this the first test of the power of our networking. Our Brothers in the band Compel ( Joe Horne ) have put together a compilation to help out Brother Ed Barnard. Many of you know that Ed runs Doommantia.com and is currently homeless from a severely bad year (multiple heart attacks, staggering medical bills, asshole landlord and more) and the money made from this goes directly to him. So, please post the bandcamp page link to every music page you are on and to every FB friend that listens to these bands!"

The Realm Of Which We Reap...

"For fifteen years, Witch Mountain has flown the flag of doom over its cloudy hometown of Portland, OR. Formed in 1997 by guitarist/songwriter Rob Wrong (M99, Iommi Stubbs) and drummer/manager Nathan ‘Nanotear’ Carson (Point Line Plane, Two Ton Boa), the group has stayed loud and proud through a variety of lineups and musical epochs. Today, the band is recognized as a leader in some of the most renowned metal communities in the world—locally alongside Agalloch, YOB, and Red Fang—and internationally as part of the Profound Lore label and Nanotear Booking rosters."

The Brutal Truth...

"Our first album "Koronis" is currently only available as an online-stream and for (free) downloading. However we are working on a CD-release with a strictly limited amount (due to manual work). We would also be considering a release on Vinyl, but due to financial and temporal reasons this will be postponed to the future.

A little background information regarding our recordings: we have been rehearsing and polishing our songs in the last year. During this period we have concocted even more brutal riffs with which Carrion Mother will be occupied with in the near future."

Heating Things Up...

Monobrow have a new release out called Bennington Triangle Blues. Grab it quick, You won't be disappointed.

"These instrumental scientists have crafted a platter of heavy instrumental psych-rock. Soaring guitar solos, melodic groove, dynamic arrangements, these guys hit it all with unmatched talent and orchestral sensibility.

Formed on an icy day in 2009, the band developed an instant chemistry through a common love for heaviosity."

Members include singer Jerry Jones, the vocalist of the acclaimed psych-blues outfit Trophy Scars, and guitarist Gay Kautz from I Am Heresy; with drummer Vinnie Fiore, bassist Jesse Mariani, and guitarist John Pinho all from the prematurely dismantled Chambers."

Hard Fucking Rock

This Southern California five piece plays uncompromising hard rock with just the right mix of Sunset Strip attitude and swagger. Joseph Nichy croons with incendiary passion, while guitarists Adrian Maude and Adam Dashwood fire off smoking hot riffs and tasty leads. It's all driven forward by the freight train rhythm section of Brian Dropkin behind the kit and Billy Haig on bass.

Back to the basics...

"The Attila Moustache step into the limelight to remind the world of all the good things in powerful guitar riffs, wailing organs and melodic vocals - just in case it forgot. Inspired by various styles and decades, the Hamburg-based five-piece crafts a sound influenced by all your favourite bands, yet with a twist of its own."
