Boston Stranglers...

The vocalist in Boston's Hydronaut sounds a bit like the vocalist from Bear vs Shark, but the similarities end there. These guys are Heavy and rough around the edges with a dirty Punk attitude.

"The antithesis of prolific, the nebulous concept of Hydronaut has remained a righteous yet virtually non-exisitent force since 03? 04 maybe? It's been quite awhile. Roughly 14-15 songs total have been written in this rediculously long time span. However, some of those songs are awesome.

This album was recorded at the now sadly defunct Camp Street Studio in Cambridge Massachusetts.
Can't remember when.
Johnny and Alex "The Hit Man" Hartman engineered and mixed it.
Live requests can be fullfilled by being our friend IRL and participating in the still occuring weekly Friday night noise-making/drinking/chief/dart sesh at Club Charlietown. At least 2 of us, probably 3 and sometimes even all 4 of us will be there. "

Get Some Action...

"Michael Action is a three-piece rockband.

We all try to sing.
We fail big time.
We sing about cities and countries.
And girls and big cars and parties.
We like beer, travelling, barbecues, good movies, better conversations and the best parties.
We use downtuned guitars and loud amps.
We do not have much time, that´s why our songs are rather short.

We are heavily inspired by Napoleon Dynamite."

Fear Nothing...

This is a strange one. Blending Trent Reznor's Industrial styled vocals and occasional beats with a side of Stoner/Desert/Alt Rock that seems to actually work. You be the judge for yourself, I kind of like it.

More Music From Big Momma Russia...

Sound Of Ground have just released their new one titled R.H.S. (EP) and it rips. They've been posted before here if by chance you've missed them.

"Sound of Ground is a stoner metal three piece from the heart of Russia, Moscow. Comprised of Danila Khromov on guitar, Jan Karlin on drums and vocals, and Denis Makhnev on bass, the band was formed in January 2010. These guys combine heavy riffs of classical hard rock, buzzing sound of early grunge, drenched vocals in English with good songwriting abilites, and are determined to make a mark in the uprising Russia’s heavy rock scene. Their influences are pretty obvious, but the music itself is alive, enjoyable and evocative."

"Deaf Proof are Pedro (d), JP (b) and Fredo (v/g) and Phil (g). They mix up stonerrock, metal, 70s-rock, r'n'r, psychedelic and a dash of progressive, in other words: Down-tuned and based on a diversified drum and bass groove, the fat riffs are varied by tons of cutting melodies, crying solid and twin guitar attacks, on top of raw and powerful vocals."

"Emerging from the untimely demise of stoner rockers Sufferghost, Curse the Son is a plodding distorted sonic wall of Sabbathian riffage.

Ron Vanacore(Vox&Guitar), Cheech(Bass), and Michael Petrucci(Drums).

A power trio in the truest sense.....screaming amps...tons of fuzz...fat bass..thick riffin...lots of smokin!

Staring into Space...

"FACE ON MARS is a cataclysmic combination of heavy blues rock and loud psychedelic fuzz with elements of noise rock, doom metal, and southern sludge.

In 2004, Drew Kern (drums), Drew White (guitar), & Jonathan Lee (bass) began jamming together as RED SKY CIRCUS. A handful of songs were being worked on yet due to equipment problems and lack of a permanent practice space, the group went on hiatus. After the demise of RED SKY CIRCUS, drummer Drew Kern took on vocals & guitar and by 2006, with Jarod Lumpkin on drums & Jonathan Lee on bass, FACE ON MARS began to practice eight completed songs. During Christmas break of 2006, guitarist Drew White returned. The members had three common endeavors: to be loud, psychedelic, & heavy.

At first, the band gathered most of its influences from the fuzzy grooves of KYUSS, the oddball heaviness of the MELVINS, and the brutal onslaught of ELECTRIC WIZARD and HIGH ON FIRE. BLACK SABBATH and PINK FLOYD were also thrown in for good measure. By the summer of 2008, a passion for 1970s rock emerged, mostly obscure and out-of-print artists. Guitarist/Vocalist Drew Kern began to inject the soulful wailing of MOUNTAIN and GRAND FUNK RAILROAD while the music was laced with traces of THIN LIZZY, PENTAGRAM, & DEEP PURPLE.

Since 2006, the group has played more than 40 shows alongside bands such as BEFORE I HANG, SLO POKE, COUGH, ROYAL THUNDER, DARK CASTLE, SMOKE & FEATHERS, LORD BY FIRE, HAARP, MOOSE, THE DEVIL & THE SEA, and many more. In the summer of 2008, a self-produced EP was recorded including six original tracks. During the summer of 2009, "Jump the Gun" was recorded at a local studio with plans to release a split with BEFORE I HANG. The song was also featured on's Compilation Vol. 9. That same year on Halloween night in Hattiesburg, a ROKY ERICKSON tribute performance featured FACE ON MARS with members of BEFORE I HANG." ~ (Band Bio)

More Italian Tunes...

"The Italian duo "Le Scimmie" was born in the colorful spring of 2007 in Vasto, a seaside town in central Italy.
The ideas of the project are: guitar, drums, minimal power, raw sound.
In the winter of 2007 they recorded their first EP called "L'Origine EP" that gets excellent support from the Italian press.
2008: the band reached the final at one of major Italian music festival called "Italia Wave" and remains on tour for about a year.
After a year of silence, in January 2011, Le Scimmie released their first album entitled "Dromomania".

The Second Coming...

Thanks to Corey from the Band They Yearn For What They Fear for sending in this 18+ minute B-Side. It was posted on a lot of Blogs a while back so I sat on it for a while longer, and if You missed it the first time around, here it is again.

"Around since 2005ish, They Yearn For What They Fear started as a wall-of-noise grind unit, and while they can definitely still tap into all the rage of speed, they've become incredibly dynamic in their sound and tone while never sacrificing heaviness or their own brand of apocalyptic psychedelia. They are hard at work crafting a sonic tome worthy of their name, as well as split releases of all varieties (and hopefully a re-release of their lone testament to their ultra-violent roots, The Art of Communication via Concentric in the near future)."

Sea Of Green

Canadian Space Relics...

“Toronto post-metal band creates the perfect winter music, moving at the pace of a snow drift, crushing heaviness & girth pull themselves forward. Slow distortion blistered guitar riffs, crackle and break through walls of cymbal hits, as they form their own wall of drone that washes over everything only easing up as we reach the calm in the storm. Quiet post-rock guitar artistry, builds on itself free of the chains & weight of distortion. Building back into the distortion laden caustic metal guitar jabs, the band lurches forward again, gaining speed & hardcore vocal intensity.”

Who's gonna argue with that?

"Seas Of Stone is a 4-piece band from Dresden, Germany. The soundscape is built with massive guitar walls, weighty riffs, nihilistic outbursts and musical socialization somewhere between Neurosis, Kylesa and God is an Astronaut."

A Warm Desert Breeze...

“Migration Vol. 1” is the first installment of a three-part release that will chronicle Mission South as they set out on the road to becoming a full-time band. After the three childhood friends decided on separate universities after high school, the band’s future was limited to the summers in between school years.

This first installment showcases some of the songs written during these summer reunions and reveals the band’s adoption of heavier blues and rock influences. Now in their final year of college, the members of Mission South plan on pursuing the group full time upon graduation: a journey the “Migration” records aim to capture in full.

Welcome to Volume One.

Six Feet Under...

Lucky Dead Man is the newest release (2011) from the Band Memest. They used to be called Human Waste until about five years ago when they changed the name and musical style to become who they are now.

"The current style is much more aggressive, faster and stronger, with a clear base of heavy rock n’ roll and some parts nearer to Doom, in the line of bands as Black Sabbath or Motörhead, or other more modern Bands as Krux, Entombed or High On Fire."
